Unstamped weights and measures seized

Officials from the Labour department led by the Inspector of Labour conducted a surprise check in several shops including vegetable and fruit shops and mutton and fish stalls in Puthur, Woraiyur, Chathiram, Edatheru markets and also in the Chathiram bus stand, E.B.Road and N.S.C.Bose Road areas here recently. They seized 236 unstamped weights and measures including electronic weighing machines.

According to a communication received from S.Sundararaj, inspector of Labour, on Thursday, the surprise checks were conducted under the guidance of Selvi Sankari and C.Somburajan, joint and deputy commissioners of Labour respectively, on the instructions of Hans Raj Verma, commissioner of Labour.

He said action had been initiated against the merchants for not stamping the weights and measures.

He said action had been initiated against 120 firms and traders for not implementing weekly holiday and for carrying out business after 10 p.m.
