Two men held on murder charges

CHENNAI: Following the suicide of a woman, allegedly owing to harassment by her husband, the police arrested him on charges of murder. According to the police, Babu (31), a welder, was married to Dhanalakshmi (27). They lived in Damodaran Nagar, Vyasarpadi. She allegedly set herself aflame a few days ago. She was admitted to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital with burn injuries, where she died.

Man dead

A 28-year-old man admitted to a government hospital after being allegedly assaulted by his neighbour, died on Wednesday. Police said Perumal (53) and his wife Viswa (39) were residents of Kalyanapuram in Vyasarpadi. Employed as a watchman in a textile showroom in Royapettah, he suspected his neighbour Muthuvel (28) of having a relationship with his wife.

A few days ago when Perumal did not go to work, Muthuvel asked him for the reason. Irked, Perumal got into an altercation, during which he allegedly assaulted the younger man with a weapon.

He was admitted to Stanley Medical College Hospital, where he died. The police arrested Perumal.
