Two killed as train hits moped

Coimbatore: A couple travelling on a moped were killed when a train knocked them down at an unmanned level crossing on the Kinathukkadavu - Kodavadi road on Thursday morning.

The victims have been identified as Nataraj (45), a farmer, and wife Padmavathy.

Boys rescued

The Railway Police have rescued two boys, who were found roaming around the railway station on Thursday morning.

Inquiries revealed that Kalaiarasan (12), son of Mani of Weavers colony in Salem, and Mani (11), son of Krishnan of Kuppanur in Dharmapuri, studying in Standard six, left the hostel in Madurai where they were staying after their teacher scolded them for scoring poor marks in examinations.

They reached Coimbatore on Thursday morning. The boys are lodged at the observation home at Pappanaickenpalayam and the railway police have informed their parents.

Student attacked

The Sulur Police have registered a case against four students of a private college in Sulur on the charges of beating up a fellow student Mohammed Bawas when he ventured for eating in a hotel. Previous enmity is cited as reason.
