Top personalities from cricket and celluloid world enthral fans

TIRUCHI: If cricketers and cine stars attract fans on an even keel, the reason is understandable.

The link between the two professions is not lost on the masses. For, people quite often come across instances of cine stars playing cricket and cricket stars trying to prove their mettle before arc lights.

Nevertheless, for the fans, it is the star attraction that matters the most. Seeing their stars in flesh and blood is like a dream come true for them. The fan following was evident in the turnout of people during the recent visits of actors Vijay and Dhanush and cricketer Kris Srikkanth.

Crowds of fans greeted them the moment they arrived. Vijay and Dhanush were here to promote their respective Pongal releases ‘Villu’ and ‘Padikadhavan,’ while former India captain Kris Srikkanth’s visit was for gracing the valediction of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Tiruchi District Cricket Association (TDCA).

These stars virtually waded through a sea of fans and kept signing autographs and posing for photographs. The cameras kept on flashing around them.

“I had been longing to meet Vijay for quite sometime. Though I couldn’t get an autograph from him, I still managed to shake hands with him. Many of my friends envied me,” exclaimed Kumaresan with a sense of achievement.

Perhaps, P. S. Nirmal Kumar, a promising young cricketer from Tiruchi, was luckier. By virtue of his consistent performance, he was chosen by the TDCA to present memento to Srikkanth. Nirmal had his moment of pride before his star.
