Two cases transferred to `Q' Branch police

RAMANATHAPURAM: Two important cases, that exposed illegal arms smuggling networks from Tamil Nadu to Sri Lanka, have been transferred to the `Q' Branch police.

The first pertains to the seizure of a huge quantity of aluminium bars and other materials used for making improvised explosive devices on February 12 and 14 by the Indian Navy.

The other case relates to the seizure of 1,950 detonators at Alaikathavalasai in Ramanathapuram district.

Though several persons have been arrested in the first case, no one has been arrested in the detonators' seizure case.

Police sources said here on Thursday that the cases were transferred considering their sensitive nature. Key accused in the cases, including Kirubakaran, said to be a leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealem, have reportedly escaped to Sri Lanka.
