PUDUKOTTAI: Tributes were paid to the late Dr. Muthulakshmy Reddy at a function organised to mark her birth anniversary celebrations by H.H. The Rajah’s College here recently.

Noted writer and Sahitya Akademi awardee Melanmai Ponnusamy referred to Dr. Reddy’s resolve to pursue higher education in medicine at a time when women did not enjoy any freedom or right to education. She was the lone woman student of the H.H. The Rajah’s College as well as the Madras Medical College, testifying to her iron will to fight for women’s rights through education. College Principal M. Chidambaranathan referred to Dr. Reddy’s services in the cause of protecting women’s rights and the downtrodden. Humility and simplicity were her outstanding traits which made her a role model for women.

District organiser of Youth Red Cross S. Viswanathan said that the late Dr. Reddy had brought laurels to the State in general and the district in particular through her selfless service.
