They submit memorandum to Collector

Udhagamandalam: Residents of Chinna Kurumbadi have asked the district administration to explore the possibility of rehabilitating them at Marvala near Kotagiri.

Located on Coonoor-Mettupalayam highway Chinna Kurumbadi was one of the worst-affected parts of the Nilgiris district in the deluge of November 2009.

Led by village leader L.Raman the residents who belong to the Kurumba tribal community submitted a memorandum to the Nilgiris Collector Anandrao V. Patil here on Monday.

Landslip

Pointing out that their village had suffered extensive damages in a landslip that occurred on November 9, 2009, they expressed the fear that in future also such landslides would occur if it rained heavily.

Stating that their ancestors had resided at Marvala, they claimed that since the land occupied by them had been transferred to the forest department, they were forced to move to Chinna Kurumbadi many years ago.

The people are now scared to live there.

Hence steps should be taken to rehabilitate them.
