Training for polling staff

Tuticorin: As Lok Sabha elections are round the corner, the staff of taluk office here are busy readying themselves on Thursday for serving orders to polling personnel.

As many as 6, 400 polling personnel would be deployed to man the 1,292 polling stations in the district spread over six assembly segments, including Vilathikulam, Kovilpatti, Tiruchendur, Srivaikuntam, Tuticorin and Ottapidaram.Three Election Observers had already been deputed to oversee the poll proceedings, Collector and Returning Officer G. Prakash said on Thursday.

Classes would be held in three phases to train the presiding and polling officers. The first phase of training would commence on April 29 followed by the second phase on May 6 and the final phase on May 9. The Assistant Returning Officers concerned would train the polling personnel at various locations, mostly in schools. The Chief Education Officer and the District Education Officer would be involved in dispatching orders, he added.
