‘Limited space in vegetable market is affecting trade’

Traders want new market with better access roads

SALEM: Vegetable traders in Ananda Bridge Market staged a demonstration here on Saturday protesting against the Salem Corporation’s regulations regarding the establishment of stalls in the market.

They claimed that the officials were directing the traders to put up stalls in a limited space in the market, which affected their trade.

Traders were not able to keep their stock in their stalls due to the small space allotted for them in the market. People were also finding it difficult while purchasing vegetables. Customers were also going through difficulties because of lack of space.

Traders wanted the Corporation to provide them adequate space and required facilities to establish stalls in the market. They also pointed out that the existing market lacked adequate facilities.

They wanted the civic administration to select a new place and establish a market with all necessary facilities including drinking water provisions, lighting, toilets and better access roads.

The civic body should also provide identity cards to the traders, who were allowed to sell vegetables in the market, traders said.
