SALEM: Highlighting various development projects and welfare programmes of both State and Centre in the 5-year regime of the Congress-led UPA government, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President and Congress candidate for the Salem Parliament constituency K. V. Thangka Balu began his campaign from Poolavari village, the native place of the DMK district secretary and Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam, on Wednesday.

Accompanied by the Veerapandi MLA and son of Mr. Arumugam, A. Raja, the Congress leader carried out door-to-door canvassing in the village.

He said that the five-year, Congress-led government had initiated many mega projects in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs. 56,000 crore of which Salem alone received Rs. 6,000 crore worth of projects.

The Salem MP also said that this was possible because of perfect understanding and coordination of both State and Central governments.
