Team visits Kerala to study renewable energy sources utilisation

SALEM: A team of officials from Salem district visited Kerala recently to study the renewable energy sources development and utilisation programmes being implemented in the State.

Programmes

A press release said that the Kerala Government was executing a number of programmes to promote the use of renewable energy sources. It had provided electricity to more than 2,000 villages using solar energy.

Several industrial units in the State were manufacturing products to harness solar energy and exporting them.

A team of 14 persons from the district including Salem Corporation Commissioner M. Jayaraman, District Forest Officer A.K. Loganathan, District Industries Centre General Manager K. Govindarajan, Lead District Manager Uthamalingam, Public Relations Officer Manoharan, persons from non-governmental organisations and some industries studied the programmes.

Along with officials from Salem, teams from Erode, Coimbatore and Nilgiris also visited the State.

Solar energy

The release said that the team inspected the villages in hilly areas, where solar energy was used for lighting and water heating.

Later, officials visited the factories manufacturing solar-powered products. They also saw the Energy Park located near Ernakulam and the biogas plants.
