Ms. V. Santha, District Revenue Officer, said that the Vigilance and Control Room for chikungunya had been formed in Erode and Dharapuram, in the offices of the Deputy Director, Health Services.

The two control rooms would receive information about any viral fever cases in their area and immediately deploy doctors to attend patients.

In addition to this, an RRT was formed in Erode with Deputy Director, Health Services as its chairman and Regional Entomologist, District Malaria Officer, and health inspectors as its members.

Similarly, the taluk-level RRTs were also formed. In case of any outbreak of chikungunya, the RRT members would visit the area and attend on the patients.

The Superintendent of Government Headquarters Hospital, K.K.A. Hussain Ali, told TheHindu, “So far, no case of viral fever is reported in large number. The usual cases of seasonal fever were reported in the hospitals and were treated. Chikungunya will affect patients due to the bite of ades-egypti mosquito and this is very rare one. If the people keep their surroundings clean, there would be meagre chances of breeding of such mosquitoes.”

He wanted the general public to clean their surroundings daily.
