Teachers agitation demanding parity

Based on Sixth Pay Panel recommendations

About 2,500 members of Tamil Nadu Elementary School Teachers' Federation staged a demonstration in various parts of the district on Thursday demanding parity in benefits of Sixth Pay Commission with their Central government counterparts.

There was a huge gap in salary and benefits like 180 days of maternity leave. Education loans were denied to elementary school teachers in Tamil Nadu, according to S. Neelakandan, member, State Executive Committee.

There were about 300 participants in the agitation organised by the Federation's Tiruchi city and west zone wings. Zonal presidents R. Visalakshi and S. Amal Sesuraj presided over. An estimated 40,000 teachers took part in the state-wide agitation organised at 400 centres.
