Swamy slams call for strike

CHENNAI: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Thursday criticised Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi “for calling a general strike to pressure the Central government to ensure a ceasefire in Sri Lanka.”

He said the Chief Minister had committed a “gross dereliction of duty,” and shown “contempt for the Indian Constitution,” by his action.

In a statement, Dr.Swamy said: “The strike, however, is condemnable because the election process is on and today is the penultimate day for filing of nominations by candidates in Tamil Nadu.” He also said that a ceasefire was on the cards in Sri Lanka as the LTTE was finished and it was only a “matter of days before Prabakaran is taken dead or alive.”
