SALEM: The inter-collegiate competition `Sarada Fiesta - 2007' organised by Sri Sarada College of Education (SSCE) for Women here on Friday presented a platform to the students to exhibit their skills in traditional dances and modern games.

The vibrant folk dances were the highlight of the event. Thangaraj, a student of King College of Education, Namakkal, put up a brilliant `Karakattam' performance. The student did several acrobatic feats like dancing on a wooden plank placed on three bottles and lifting a bottle while nicely balancing the decorated pot on his head. The performance had earned him a thunderous applause.

Students of Paavai College of Education, Namakkal, presented an impressive Poikkal Kuthiraiyattam. The quality and exuberance in the dance performance left the audience spellbound. Both of the performances were given first prize. Students from a few other colleges performed Kummiyattam and Kavadiyattam. In the classical dance event, a number of students displayed their Bharathanatyam skills. Students from 13 colleges participated in the event.

College secretary Yatiswari Vinayaka Priya inaugurated the event.
