Student excels in rural talent examination

Tuticorin: S. Hari Vaishnavi, a ninth standard student of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Eral, received a cash prize of Rs. 1, 000 for excelling in the Rural Talent Exam 2009 - 10.

As for eligibility, students from the rural areas should have passed eighth standard with a minimum of fifty percentage of marks in their annual examination.

Honouring the student at CEO's office here on Tuesday, P. Vishnu Prasad, Chief Education Officer, said that such an initiative would encourage the student community from the rural areas to continue their education with more interest.

Since there were lots of opportunities for such students in the urban areas, the rural students had been provided with a number of such chances, he said.

C. Robertson Suthanthira Raj, Head Master, said that the students hailing from the rural areas were being trained so to enable them to compete with one another.
