Stress on people’s participation

CUDDALORE: People’s Union for Civil Liberties (Tamil Nadu and Puducherry) president V. Suresh has called for people’s participation in protecting public utilities from falling into private hands.

At a conference of consumers’ organisations held here to commemorate the National Consumers’ Day on Monday, Mr. Suresh said the public-private partnership was a subtle move to privatise public sector undertakings. The Government was handing over one after another sector to private companies.

Mr. Suresh claimed that there was even a plan to hand over prison security to private agencies but owing to opposition from the PUCL the move was deferred. – Special Correspondent
