Udhagamandalam: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has warned that stringent action would be taken against those who electrified their fences without adhering to the rules.

Pointing out that, of late, many wild animals including elephants were being killed due to unauthorized electrification of fences erected along agriculture fields, the Superintending Engineer in-charge, Nilgiris Electricity Distribution Circle T.Haldurai said in a pressnote here that steps were being taken to check the practice.

Giving direct connection from houses and commercial establishments was posing a threat to animals.

Stringent action would be taken against such persons. Their electricity connection will be permanently disconnected.

He asked people to bring to the notice of the department such instances.

It would help prevent the death of animals and power theft.
