SIAA to offer B.Sc. (Film Technology)

CHENNAI: Members of the South Indian Artists Association (SIAA) have resolved to install statues of legendary actors M.G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, M.R. Radha and Kalaivanar N.S. Krishnan in their renovated complex on Habibullah Road.

The decision was taken during their 55th Annual General Body Meeting held here on Sunday.

SIAA in association with Vel’s Group of Institutions, Pallavaram, would offer a three-year B.Sc. (Film Technology) course in editing and cinematography and a one-year diploma course in acting, in order to create more jobs in film industry. The course will begin from August 2008 for 100 students. To help the children of cine artistes, SIAA proposes to approach colleges in the State, requesting them to offer at least one seat for deserving students. After presenting the audit report of SIAA for 2007-2008, its president R. Sarathkumar urged leading artistes to donate up to 2.5 per cent of their salary to the Association to help ailing artistes.

Besides, it was also decided to impress upon actors and actress’ to become members of SIAA on or before June 30. As on date, SIAA has cash reserves of Rs 3.49 crore in two bank accounts.SIAA general secretary M.R. Radha Ravi said 2,900 out of 3,000 artistes were in a financially bad shape. He urged artistes to contribute generously to provide medical help and educational support to deserving candidates.
