Towards loan to members of religious minorities

NAGERCOIL: As per the directive from Reserve Bank of India and as part of the ‘financial inclusion’ of the disadvantaged and the low income groups, the Indian Overseas Bank, the lead bank of the district, has established Financial Literacy and Credit Counselling Centre (FLCCC) at Vettoornimadam near here.

The objective is to provide free financial literacy and credit counselling services through a face-to-face interaction as well as other available media such as e-mail, fax, mobile phone etc..

Christened ‘Sneha’, IOB’s FLCCC at Vettoornimadam was inaugurated by K.R. Ananda, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, Chennai on Monday in the presence of Collector Rajendra Ratnoo.

Mr. Ananda said the FLCCC, should create an awareness among the public, particularly among the rural masses, of products available with the financial institutions for the betterment of the deprived.

Appealing to the bankers to exceed the credit targets, Mr. Rajendra Ratnoo said the State government had planned to give Rs. 99 crore towards loan to the members of religious minorities and hence the banks had a role to play in this connection.
