Special team to crack down on anti-social elements

CUDDALORE: A special police team has been formed to crack down on the anti-social elements that are operating from Cuddalore and the neighbouring places, including Puducherry, said Ashwin M.Kotnis, Superintendent of Police.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr Kotnis said the dossiers of the anti-social elements had been prepared containing details such as their crime profiles, finger prints, physical attributes, hideouts, accomplices and family members and their whereabouts.

Such information was also shared with the security personnel in Puducherry and Sirkazhi. Owing to the coordinated efforts a criminal named Sakthivel wanted by Cuddalore police was traced by their counterparts in Puducherry and one Kumar was caught here and handed over to the territorial police recently, Mr Kotnis said.

The DSP and SP-level meetings of the Cuddalore and Puducherry police were held periodically to take stock of the situation. The special team headed by Sub-Inspector Ambedkar could be contacted over cell phones 94454 90320, 97915 51900, 94454 90436, 94431 87841, and, telephone numbers 04142—284345 and 284350.

He said that as regard to the sale and storage of firecrackers the safety guidelines would be strictly enforced. Already 15 cases were booked for unauthorised stocking of firecrackers, Mr Kotnis said.
