Youngsters took part in the initiative by Scope International

CHENNAI: A group of children and adults walked the sands of the Marina on Sunday morning with the aim of tidying up the beach.

They were participating in an initiative by Scope International, a subsidiary of Standard Chartered Bank. This year’s slogan for Scope International’s environment campaign is ‘CO2 kick the habit.’

Mayor M. Subramanian launched the programme. He said: “More such environment-friendly initiatives should be organised by the corporate sector.”

Employees, who participated in World Environment Day celebrations, car-pooled, travelled by public transport or cycled to the Marina beach, said representatives of Scope International.

“This year, the focus across Standard Chartered is to look at how we can reduce our carbon impact. Making lifestyle changes will positively benefit the environment,” Edwin Nevis, chief executive officer of Scope International, said in a press release.
