Shops removed near medical college hospital

SALEM: Responding to a spate of complaints from public and patients that encroachments near the main entrance of the Government Medical College Hospital here have become a menace, Corporation authorities, assisted by a posse of policemen removed all unauthorised road-side eateries, petty shops and other structures on Wednesday.

Many citizens' fora and public had been demanding the Corporation to remove these encroachments, which not only obstructed traffic in the narrow approach road to the hospital but also posed serious health hazards to patients and their attendants by selling unhygienic food to the poor patients. Other than this, many anti-social activities also were reported.

Good move

Though Corporation, time and again, had been removing the encroachments, they would pop up to the distress of general public and patients. Hence on Wednesday they carried out a drive against these encroachments by removing the shops and eateries.

"It was a good move by the Corporation," said a duty doctor along with his colleagues had been undergoing difficult times while entering the hospital.
