Shastry to be Joint Director of NPA

CHENNAI: G.U.G. Shastry, a 1987-batch IPS officer, has been chosen for the newly created post of Joint Director in the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad.

Presently Inspector-General of Police (Railways) here, he will join the academy in the first week of February and be in-charge of the ‘Mid-term Career Training Programme’ that has been made mandatory for senior police officials. The appointment comes a couple of months after Director General of Police K. Vijay Kumar, a 1975-batch IPS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, was selected to head NPA as its Director. Mr. Shastry has already served the academy for about 5 years. He was the Assistant Director between 1996 and 2002. — Special Correspondent
