Security strengthened

Udhagamandalam: In view of the Republic Day celebrations an elaborate security plan has been put in place here, according to the Superintendent of Police, Kapil Kumar C. Saratkar.

He told reporters here on Monday that vigil has been stepped up near vital installations. Vehicle checks and checking in lodges have been intensified. Around 300 policemen and many officers have been instructed to be in a state of high alert. Special attention will be paid to public places and tourist spots. Check posts on the borders have been strengthened.

Along with the railway police dog squads will patrol the Nilgiri Mountain Railway line. Stating that hotels have been asked to furnish details pertaining to foreign nationals, Mr. Saratkar said that unauthorised lodges have been warned that if they fail to provide details pertaining to their guests stringent action will be taken against them.
