Security stepped up for Republic Day

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police have stepped up security arrangements for the Republic Day celebrations. Over 1,200 police personnel would be deployed across the city. Talking to The Hindu, City Police Commissioner K.C. Mahali said that access control security measures and aerial surveillance from high rise buildings near the VOC Park would form part of the security arrangements.

Anti-Sabotage Teams of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads would be on a state of alert. Visitors to the Republic Day parade at VOC Park would be frisked.

Vehicle checks are being intensified with effect from Saturday night.
