VELLORE: The Tamil Nadu government has constituted a three-member search committee to recommend a panel of three names to the Chancellor of the Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore, for the appointment of Vice-Chancellor of the university. The post of Vice-Chancellor of Thiruvalluvar University fell vacant following the acceptance by the Governor of Tamil Nadu and Chancellor of the University of the resignation of L. Kannan as the Vice-Chancellor of the University on February 7.

Registrar-in-charge of Thiruvalluvar University A. Amuldoss told newspersons here on Tuesday that S. Sivasubramanian, Vice-Chancellor, Noorul Islam University, Kanyakumari district (who is a former Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore) and the Chancellor’s nominee on the search committee, will be the convener of the committee, as per a Government Order (ID) no. 151 dated July 3, 2009.

The other two members of the search committee are S. Bhaskaran, Member-Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education, Chennai (government nominee) and M.S. Palanichamy, former Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Open University, Chennai (nominee of the Syndicate of Thiruvalluvar University).

The above search committee will recommend a panel of three names along with their bio-data to the Chancellor for appointment of the Vice-Chancellor.

Results

The Registrar-in-charge said that the Thiruvalluvar University has published the results of the second and third year undergraduate (UG) examinations on Saturday and distributed the printed results to the respective colleges on Monday.

The results of the second year postgraduate (PG) examinations were published on Monday, while the results of the first year UG and PG examinations would be published on Wednesday.

In reply to a question, Dr. Amuldoss said that teachers and non-teaching staff for the University would be posted only after the new Vice-Chancellor assumes charge.

As against 45 posts of teachers for the nine sanctioned departments, only two teachers have been posted, while against 96 posts of non-teaching staff sanctioned, the government has permitted the appointment of only 22 temporary non-teaching employees.
