Sari with 108 karnas introduced

Thanjavur: Sivapal Saris and Fashions has introduced a silk sari with 108 `karnas' of Bharatanatyam. It was unveiled to the public at a function here on Thursday.

Another sari with block printing of karnas was also displayed.

Lot of work had gone into the making of the sari, S. Senthil Kumar of the firm, said. A team of fine arts college students had gone to Chidambaram temple, copied the karnas on the pillars and traced and pinned the same on the handloom sari.

"We have plans to introduce more theme saris such as this. Krishnaleela will be our next theme," Mr. Kumar said. Meenakshi Chitharanjan, founder and director of Kaladiksha Bharatha Natyam School, Chennai, said that Thanjavur was the seat of all arts and culture. Usharani Sundhakar, former Innerwheel Club president, Rama Kaulsalya, Principal of Government Music College, Thiruvaiyaru, R. Vaidyanathan, Chief Regional Manager of Indian Overseas Bank, Suresh Moopanar, Congress leader, and Kumar, Sivaji Productions, participated in the function.
