Salem railway division cold-shouldered: Chamber of Commerce

SALEM: “It is a disappointing budget for the people of Tamil Nadu and especially for those in the Western Zone,” said A Jayaseelan, general secretary of Salem City Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Saying that the trade community in Western zone would soon organise an agitation in protest against the Railway Budget, he said that Salem Railway Division had been cold-shouldered with no funds for its development.

The announcement on new trains was also disappointing.

Mr. Jayaseelan claimed that the concession on freight charges was so meagre that it would never benefit the trade community..

Many other trade bodies also expressed their anguish for not sanctioning anyproject to Salem Railway Division. “We expect a day train in Salem-Vridachalam-Chennai sector and a few long distance trains from Salem. But nothing has materialised,” said a trader in Attur.
