Rural sports meet ends

TIRUCHI: The rural inter-block tournaments conducted by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu brought to light the talent of sportspersons in villages.

Conducted throughout the State in various districts, the tournament came to a close in Tiruchi district on Saturday.

Tiruchi was divided into 14 blocks and competitions were held to select the best from each block in various sports and games, including athletics, kabaddi, basketball, volleyball, football, hockey. The chosen teams and individuals then competed for the top honour in the inter-block tournaments.

Speaking at the valediction, State Transport Minister, K.N. Nehru said that the Transport department would start recruiting sportspersons in near future and also assured that necessary steps will be taken to complete the indoor stadium works. The District Sports Officer, C. Punniyamoorthy also spoke.
