Rs. 19-crore relief sought

PUDUKOTTAI: The district administration has sought an immediate relief of Rs. 19 crore for repairing damage caused to roads, tanks, culverts, besides relief to rain-affected people.

Stating this to the media here on Monday, District Revenue Officer G. Prakasam said that the rain had caused extensive damage to about 150 culverts, 175 tanks and roads to a cumulative stretch of about 490 km.

The tanks were maintained either by the Public Works Department or the panchayat unions while the roads fell under the jurisdiction of the State Highways, Municipality and Town panchayats.

Mr. Prakasam also added that paddy on 260 hectares and groundnut on 140 hectares had been damaged in the rain.

The district administration had sent a proposal to the State Government in this regard, he said.
