Rs. 1.54 crore given as assistance

To 251 self-help groups in various parts of Pudukottai district

PUDUKOTTAI: Distribution of ‘Manimekalai cash awards;' revolving fund; and awards to best branches of nationalised banks in the district formed the highlight of the function held under the auspices of the Tamil Nadu Corporation of Development of Women (Mahalir Thittam) here on Wednesday.

In all, assistance worth Rs. 1.54 crore was distributed to 251 self-help groups in various parts of the district.

The Panchayat- Level Federation of Self-Help Groups in Sundampatti bagged the ‘Manimekalai Award' which carries a cash purse of Rs.50,000.

This apart, a purse of Rs.10,000 was given to each of the three self-help groups.

The Panchayat Level Federation at M. Kulavaipatti got a loan of Rs.24 lakh sanctioned by Indian Bank, Pudukottai.

Ten SHGs got an incentive of Rs. One lakh. A total of 200 SHGs got a revolving fund to the tune of Rs.1.20 crore.

Indian Overseas Bank and the Aranthangi branch of State Bank of India bagged the prize for bank and the branch respectively for 2008-09 in recognition of their service.
