Retail major eyes Madurai

MADURAI: Westside, retail chain of stores from the house of Tatas, is planning to bring an international shopping experience to the Temple City with an invitation for franchisee proposals.

Furnishing details on Westside’s franchisee plans in Madurai, Neeti Chopra, Head, Marketing, Trent, told media persons here on Monday that Madurai had a huge business potential and through the franchisee business model, they were aiming to give Madurai residents world-class shopping experience complemented through affordability. The store was expected to measure around 8,000 to 12,000 square feet with an initial investment of Rs. 1.5 crore to 2 crore for which proposals had been invited, said Ms Neeti. Trent that operates Westside would offer a range of fashionable clothing, footwear and home accessories such as linen, crockery and artefacts.

Madurai had been short-listed among 37 cities under Westside’s next phase of expansion plans and would soon be followed by Salem, Tiruchi and Puducherry. As a prelude, a road show would be conducted here on June 23 and 24.
