Claim they were supplied 15 kg of rice instead of 20 kg

SALEM: Residents of Bodinaickanpatti staged a demonstration in front of a fair price shop, run by the cooperative department, here on Tuesday protesting against the irregularities in the supply of rice and kerosene.

They claimed that the employees were distributing 15 kg of rice to a family cardholder instead of the normal monthly quota of 20 kg.

The cardholders were supplied with only 7 or 8 litres of kerosene instead of 10 litres a month.

The residents alleged that rice and kerosene from the shop were being sold in the black market.

“We have taken this issue to the notice of the higher officials. But no action has so far been initiated to sort out the issue”, cardholders charged.

District Supply Officer M. Sambasivam, who arrived at the spot, promised the cardholders that they would be supplied with full quota of rice and kerosene.

Action would be initiated against the erring employees of fair price shops, he added.
