Police took the final decision as per the girl’s desire

TIRUNELVELI: Information technology professional S. Chitra, who was rescued by the police from house arrest on Monday, wedded her boyfriend Nazir here on Tuesday.

After the girl’s parents came to know that she was in love with a Muslim boy, she was kept under house arrest in her uncle’s house at Ilanji on the foothills of Western Ghats for about a couple of months. When Superintendent of Police Asra Garg came to know about the plight of the girl through a petition submitted by Chitra’s friend during the grievance day meet, he ordered Tenkasi DSP V.R. Srinivasan to rescue the victim immediately.

Though the police tried its level best to convince Ms. Chitra’s parents, they were stubborn in their stand, forcing the law-enforcers to take the final decision as per the girl’s desire. Since she was determined to marry Mr. Nazir, he was also informed about the rescue of his girlfriend.

As Mr. Nazir, a B.Tech. graduate, was prepared to marry Ms. Chitra immediately and the girl wanted to embrace Islam, the police contacted Indian Union Muslim League Southern Region organiser S. Milleth Ismail to make necessary arrangements for the marriage.

After the lovers reached the South Indian Ishathul Islam Jamaath at Tirunelveli Junction with police protection, arrangements for the marriage were made. “Only after repeatedly asking the boy and the girl about their decision, we agreed to conduct the marriage,” Mr. Milleth Ismail said.

Following the marriage, the couple met Mr. Asra Garg to thank him and left for Tenkasi, from where they are likely to go to Chennai.
