At annual literary and cultural festival for school students

TIRUCHI: The timing turned out to be perfect this year for the thumping success of ‘Festecole’, the annual literary and cultural festival for school students organised by Rotaract Club of National Institute of Technology – Tiruchi, recently.

Greater participation

The two-day event saw the participation of 600 students from 21 schools in Tiruchi; almost three times that of last year, and of earlier years for that matter ever since its inception about eight years ago. And the competitive spirit bedecked the success in no small measure this time around.

It was a show of the R.S.K. Higher Secondary School students all through with the team winning the rolling shield, notching up 104 points. E.R. Boys’ Higher Secondary School came second with 37 points.

New events

The inter-school competition featured quiz, rangoli, dumb charades, vegetable carving, junk art, ad-zap, painting, essay writing, adaptune, debate, rock n roll, and group dance.

Of them, though vegetable carving (suggesting a theme) and junk art (creating art assorting materials such as cardboard, matchsticks and straw) were introduced this year, the level of participation was as in the other events, according to Siddharth Mohanty, one of the organisers.

Adaptune (requiring contestants to adapt to different tunes) was introduced last year.

But then, it required one year of familiarisation for the students to get adapted to the requirements.

This time, the participants appeared quite comfortable with the event.

Crowd-puller

Obviously, the number of participants was more for dumb charades and quiz. As is usual, the competitive spirit touched the crescendo in the group dance event that was the highest crowd-puller as well.
