Protest over delay in getting ration cards in Tirupur

Protesting against the huge delays in the issuance of ration cards in the city among other issues, the Communist Party of India staged a demonstration in front of the Railway Station here on Wednesday.

CPI district secretary M. Ravi said that thousands of people who had applied for ration cards many months ago and some who had applied for the cards even more than a year ago, were yet to receive the same owing to lethargic handling of the applications by the authorities concerned.


The CPI men also demanded setting up of an electricity charge collection booth at Karuvampalayam for the benefit of people residing at Karuvampalaym, K. V. R. Nagar, A.B.T. Road, L. R. G. Layout, Poochakadu Eswaramoorthy layout and Balaji Nagar.

“At present, these people have to travel many kilometres to remit the fees at the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board office at Kumar Nagar,” the protesting cadres pointed out.
