Krishnagiri: The Government has sanctioned Rs. 60 lakh for Mahalir Arivoli Thittam for Krishnagiri. The programme plans to educate all illiterate women within six months, the District Collector, Santhosh Babu, has said. The Collector asked villagers to send all children to school.

He was distributing welfare assistance to 27 beneficiaries at a mass contact programme held at Kunnathur village in Uthangarai taluk on Thursday. Over 270 petitions were received by the Collector from the villagers of Kunnathur, Samalpatti and K. Papparapatti seeking drinking water facilities, street lights, loan assistance, old age pension and assistance for the disabled.

A review of 50 petitions on which action was taken was held. Mr. Babu said that genuine petitions would be immediately registered at the online grievance redress system. A separate code number would be allotted to each petition. People could find the status of their petitions at any point of time.

Officials would personally visit the houses of the beneficiaries and verify whether they were eligible to receive welfare assistance under various government schemes.
