TIRUCHI: Prizes were distributed to those who emerged first in various games conducted as part of police-public sports meet at a function held here on Wednesday.

Commissioner of Police K. Vanniaperumal distributed the prizes at a function organised at the city Police Armed Reserve ground here.

The meet organised recently in Cantonment, Golden Rock, Fort and Srirangam ranges featured games such as cricket, volleyball, badminton and race besides musical chair and ‘kolam' competitions.

Members of Friends of Police, school students, traffic wardens and police personnel took part in the “range-wise” competitions held a few days ago. Prizes were given to those who emerged second and third in various competitions at the respective ranges earlier.

Distributing the prizes, Mr.Vanniaperumal said the sports event had been organised with a view to fostering better relationship between the police and the public. He said the city police would involve the Friends of Police in night patrolling.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Rupesh Kumar Meena; Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) R. Tamilchandran and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Ramaiyan, senior city police officers and public were present.
