Poor response to strike call by TASMAC staff

Liquor shops function with police security in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri

TASMAC retail liquor shops functioned normally with police protection in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts on Wednesday.

The strike call by the employees union had lukewarm response in Krishnagiri district. Out of the 337 employees, 88 were absent in Dharmapuri district and in Krishnagiri only seven did not attend, official sources said.

District Manager, TASMAC, R. Kalamegam, told The Hindu that six employees affiliated to PMK labour union and one from AIADMK labour union joined the strike.

The sales amount of Tuesday was collected from the respective shops and was remitted in the bank on Wednesday. All the shops have enough stock for four days.

Superintendent of Police A.G. Babu said that all the shops and the Zonal Officers, District Manager's Office and godown were provided with tight security. No untoward incidents were reported from any part of the district.

In Dharmapuri

According to R. Abaranji, District Manager, out of the 85 shops in Dharmapuri district, 70 were opened in the morning and the remaining 15 shops was opened in the evening.

Of the 337 employees 88 affiliated to AIADMK, PMK and CITU were absent on Wednesday.

Of the striking employees, 15 were supervisors, 56 salesmen, 10 bar supervisors and seven bar attenders, Mr. Abaranji said.
