Election Commission condemned for remaining a mute spectator

CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Saturday said the ruling DMK won the elections by misusing power and distributing money to the voters.

In a statement here she said though she had brought to the Election Commission the poll violations, the non-functioning of electronic voting machines and booth capturing by the DMK, it remained mute spectator.

She said in Sivaganga, Union Minster P.Chidambaram indulged in irregularities and got elected though it was “originally won” by AIADMK candidate R.S.Rajakannappan.

“It is shameful,” she said.

She said in the Villupuram and Tiruchirapalli constituencies, the AIADMK candidates were not given election certificates on time.

“I condemn the Election Commission and the DMK government for their anti-democratic acts,” she said.

MDMK general secretary Vaiko said democracy was murdered in many constituencies in Tamil Nadu with the help of money.

“The AIADMK alliance still won 13 constituencies and it is a victory for the democracy there,” he said.
