Poll to select popular stamp

TIRUCHI: The Department of Posts will organise a "Stamp Popularity Poll - 2004-05" to select the most popular stamp among the commemorative / special postage stamps issued in 2004 and 2005.

The objective is to popularise the hobby of philately as well as to gather valuable feed back regarding designs and themes of the stamps.

The poll will be open to all during the period from February 12 to 28. There will not be any age-wise or category-wise break - up. All the Head Post Offices / Mukhya Dak Ghars will be the focal points for organising the poll, a press release from the Department of Posts here said.

Entry forms are available at all Head Post Offices and Mukhya Dak Ghars. Images of the stamps duly numbered will be put on display at the post offices. The participants can win a Collector's pack containing beautiful India postage stamps if their choice for the best three stamps matches the choice of the majority.

Three prize winning entries will be selected for special prizes by draw of lots. The special prizes are Rs.5,000, Rs.3,000 and Rs.2,000 respectively for the first, second and third. Completed entries should be submitted to the Philatelic Bureau, Tiruchi or at any Head Post Office. The last date for receipt of entries is February 28. The earlier stamp popularity polls 2000, 2001 and 2003 were well received by the public, the release added.
