Policeman arrested

CHENNAI: Officers of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Monday arrested a Sub-Inspector of Police attached to the Tirumangalam police station on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000. The arrest was made based on a complaint by G. Balaji. A case was registered and the accused was later released on bail.

Central Crime Branch police on Monday arrested one person for preparing fake documents of his property and using them to procure a loan from two scheduled banks in Anna Nagar and Aminjikarai.

According to a release, the accused had wanted to use the money to develop his pharmaceutical business.

Further interrogation revealed that the accused, along with his brother and a few others, had presented fake documents in seven other nationalised banks in the city and obtained a loan of about Rs.4 crore. The police had earlier arrested the four accomplices.
