Pharmacies raided

CHENNAI: The Directorate of Drugs Control conducted surprise raids throughout Tamil Nadu on pharmacies attached to hospitals, wholesale pharma dealers, blood banks and quacks. Action was initiated against those who were found to violate the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act (Rules). Orders have been issued to two private blood banks in Thanjavur, four pharmacies attached to private hospitals in Mayiladuthurai and one wholesaler in the same area to stop operations. According to a press release, the Directorate also raided the premises of a quack practising as a doctor in Sankarankoil and seized drugs worth about Rs.50,000. — Special Correspondent
