For school students, the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings are important lessons confined to the pages of history textbooks. The students of Sri Sivananda Balaya, however, observed the 65th anniversary of the nuclear bombings with a cycle rally.

Around 150 students participated in the rally with placards echoing the need for peace and happiness. The rally was flagged off by K.G.Meenakshi, Correspondent of the school. Besides mourning the victims of the nuclear carnage, the rally dwelled on nuclear disarmament.

The rally that commenced at Periyar Statue near Central Bus stand culminated at Gandhi Asthi Mandapam, Puthur via Major Saravanan Memorial. A quiz contest on World War II was held for students from Classes Six to Ten to increase awareness on the subject. On August 6, the school organised an interaction with R.V.S Muralidhar, Director of ‘Seekers', who spoke on the ill-effects of nuclear war.
