Over 72,600 seek inclusion in photo electoral roll

SALEM: Over 72,600 persons have applied for including their names in the photo electoral roll in Salem and Namakkal districts.

The election officials received forms for inclusion, deletion and correction from the people after the publication of draft photo electoral rolls on May 25.

In Salem district, 34,512 persons from 11 Assembly constituencies applied in form 6 for including their names in the electoral rolls. Of them, 3,571 persons applied from Mettur Assembly segment, 3,330 from Taramangalam, 2,752 from Omalur, 4,107 from Yercaud, 3,033 from Salem I, 1,540 from Salem II, 1,576 from Veerapandi, 1,681 from Panamarathupatti, 5,216 from Attur, 4,420 from Talavasal and 3286 from Edapadi.

Meanwhile, 547 persons had submitted form 7 seeking deletion of their names from the rolls. .

In Namakkal district, 38,152 persons had applied for including their names in the electoral rolls. The district administration displayed the draft electoral rolls in 672 places for the public to verify the details.

Officials said that the final photo electoral roll was likely to be released on July 11.
