Over 40,000 books on display at exhibition

The three-day book exhibition organised by the Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College, Thiruvanaikoil, which commenced on Tuesday, has attracted a large number of visitors from colleges and the local community. This is the third year in succession the book exhibition is being held in this college.

Over 40,000 books on different subjects are on display in the fair, in which leading publishing houses, including Higgin Bothams, S. S. Chand and Co, Tiruchi Book House, Jupiter Book House and Cauvery Book Agency are participating.

Though the objective behind the fair was to benefit college students , the visit of a good number of parents and the local residents, has brought enriching experience to the organisers.

Besides, students of the Srirangam Boys Higher Secondary School, Srirangam Girls Higher Secondary School and Vyjayanthi Vidyalaya Matriculation School along with their teachers thronged the fair.

“Students are making purchases taking advantage of the discount offered by publishing houses,” say the college officials .



The exhibition was inaugurated by P. K. Thiyagarajan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Srirangam Sri Renganatha Swamy Temple. D. Sivasubramanian, principal of the college, presided over the function.

K. Prema, director of the college, underlined the importance of students cultivating reading habit. Books provide youngsters knowledge and therefore books are considered as the best friends, Dr. Prema said.
