Over 1,000 people rounded up by police

CHENNAI: Nearly 1,250 persons were rounded up on Friday night during a combing operation by the city police. Cases were booked against them under various sections, said an official release.

Police said the operation was conducted in view of the Vinayaka idol immersion processions slated for Sunday.

Giving the break-up, police said they rounded up 114 rowdy elements, 56 persons against whom arrest warrants were pending, 126 wanted criminals, 900 persons whose movements were suspicious and 54 on charges of drunken driving.
