One more samathuvapuram for Namakkal district

NAMAKKAL: The State Government has planned to establish one more samathuvapuram in Namakkal district, Zonal Development Commissioner and Teachers Recruitment Board Chairman P.A. Ramiah has said.

Participating at a review meeting held here on Wednesday, he said a committee was formed to identify suitable land for the establishment of new samathuvapuram. The government would require about 8 to 9 acres of land for the new project, he said and appealed to the committee members to expedite the land identification process.

Reviewing the progress of various development works being carried out in the district, Mr. Ramiah said that the government had given administrative sanction to construct 2,110 new houses under Indira Awaz Yojana in the current fiscal.

Over 2,100 houses were constructed in the last year. Over 550 kutcha houses in the district would also be improved in the current fiscal.

The government would take up 447 development works at a cost of Rs. 2.99 crore under the MLA constituency development fund in the district this fiscal. Similarly, 103 works would be carried out at a cost of Rs. 3.36 crore under the MP constituency development fund, he added.

Mr. Ramaiah directed the officials to expedite the works taken up under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam. The district administration took up 2,072 works in the last financial year. Of them, 1018 works were completed till date.

The remaining should be completed quickly, he stressed. He appreciated the district administration for commencing works under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and for the successful implementation of various schemes such as free house site distribution and free stove and liquefied petroleum gas connection programme.

District Revenue Officer G. Govindaraj presided. District Rural Development Agency Project Officer P. Renuga Devi, PA to Collector (General) Manickam, Joint Registrar of Co-operative Societies Ganesan, District Industries Centre General Manager Raj and senior officials were present in the meeting.
