Observers keeping an eye on election process

Udhagamandalam: Two senior IAS officers Chitta Balasatya Venkatramana and Anjali Bhawra, who have been appointed by the Election Commission of India as observers for the Nilgiris parliamentary constituency are keeping an eye on various aspects of the electoral process.


In a press note issued here on Thursday, the Returning Officer and Nilgiris Collector, Anandrao V. Patil, said that Mr. Venkatramana was supervising the process in Bhavani Sagar, Mettupalayam and Avinashi segments in the plains while Ms. Bhawra was taking care of Udhagamandalam, Gudalur and Coonoor on the hills.

They were staying at the Thamizhagam government guest house here.

Mr. Venkatramana was staying in room number 9 and his phone numbers are 9442231154 and 0423-2452749.

Ms. Bhawra is staying in room number 11 and her numbers are 9442241154 and 0423-2452748.


Complaints relating to violation of the model code of conduct or any other election-related matters can be reported to them in person or over phone, Mr. Patil said.

Adverting to the arrangements being done for counting the votes, the Collector said that the clearance of the Chief Electoral Officer has been sought to count the votes polled in all the six Assembly segments at the Shanthi Vijaya Girls Higher Secondary School here.

Stating that it was in accordance with a suggestion put forth by Mr. Venkatramana, he said that the observer had inspected the building on Wednesday.
